TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore
Jordan Geist was named the Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, May 15th. Last weekend at the Pac-12 Championships, he became the first Wildcat to win back-to-back shot put championships and his mark of 21.08m was the furthest throw in the Pac-12 Championships since 2011.
"The University of Arizona Athletic Department is so proud of Jordan for his second consecutive Pac-12 yearly award," said head track and field coach
Fred Harvey "He is a true student-athlete as he is one of the top students in Eller School of Business, and that's what we all want to celebrate here in Wildcat Country."
Geist, the Arizona shot put school record holder, went undefeated in the discipline in the 2019 outdoor season. He set his PR at the Triton Invitational with a toss of 21.59m (70-10), which is good for the top mark in the NCAA and the No. 6 throw in the world. Additionally, he never finished outside the top three in the hammer and discus throw events. He set his PR in the hammer throw this season at the Jim Click Shootout with a toss of 67.40m (221-1) to win the event.
Up next, Geist will compete in the Tucson Elite Classic on Saturday, May 18th. He is slated to put the shot at 8:30 p.m. MST at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
