TUCSON, Ariz. – Freshman
Jonas Ziverts will compete in the 64-player men's NCAA Singles Championships starting on May 20 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Ziverts will be the first Wildcat to play at the NCAA Singles Championships since All-American Roger Matalonga in 2006.
Â
"This is an incredible accomplishment for Jonas to be selected to play in the NCAA Tournament," said head coach
Clancy Shields. "Even more impressive is the fact that he just showed up on campus in January and is playing as a true freshman. We are excited for the opportunity he was given. We had a conversation last night about not just being a participant, but a contender to go all the way. We both feel very confident in how he is playing and excited are to represent Arizona with the best in college tennis."
Â
Ziverts has posted a record of 12-6 in his first season in college tennis, with 10 of those wins coming at the top spot in the lineup. He is currently ranked No. 66 in the country and will look to become the first Wildcat to win a match at the Singles Championships since Matalonga in 2006, who reached the Round of 16. Matalonga's two wins at the 2006 Championships included a victory against John Isner, who is currently the No. 9 player in the world and was a semifinalist at Wimbledon in 2018.

Sophomore and 79th-ranked
Filip Malbasic was also selected as an alternate to the NCAA Singles Championships. Malbasic led the team in wins with 26 on the season and went 18-6 during the spring campaign.
The official bracket for the NCAA Singles Championships will be released on Sunday.
