Served Up with Kayla Wilkins

Kayla Wilkins joined Arizona as a freshman from Charlotte, North Carolina. Last weekend she picked up her first collegiate win for the Wildcats in her second match at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic and finished with a record of 2-3 in the first tournament of the year.

ArizonaWildcats.com sat down with Wilkins to find out why she chose Arizona.

Q: How long have you been playing tennis and who got you into the sport?
A: "When I was very young, my sister and I would go to the tennis courts with our parents and ride our bikes while they played. We would always hit a few balls for fun after they were done, but I probably started playing full time and with serious intent to play college tennis when I was 14."

Q: What made you choose Arizona?
A: "I chose Arizona because it is a great school and it commits phenomenal amounts of resources to both the academic and athletic programs. The coaching staff is amazing, dedicated, and eager to help the team be the best they can be."

Q: How has it been moving to another coast away from your family?
A: "Really not bad at all. I always wanted to attend school out on the west coast and my family was very supportive of that."

Q: What is your favorite thing about dorm life?
A: "What I really enjoy the most is being so close to friends and teammates. I room with one of my teammates Khim, and I am across the hall from another, Kirsten."

Q: What is your favorite drill coach Ryan Stotland has done so far?
A: "Truthfully, I have really enjoyed all the drills and practices coach Ryan has put together for us, but my absolute favorite ones are the doubles drills."
