March Student-Athletes of the Month

Student-Athletes of the Month Named for March

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Beach Volleyball's Brooke Burling, Gymnastics' Chrissy Berg, Baseball's Hunter Cope and Men's Swimming and Diving's Jose Neumann have been honored as the student-athletes of the month for March. 
 
These students have been recognized for their commitment to earning their undergraduate degree, the ability to maximize their academic potential, and their dedication to academic improvement and growth.
 
These students have been chosen by the C.A.T.S Academic staff.
 
Burling is a senior from Naperville, Illinois. She is a Public Health Major and continues to succeed on the team and in the classroom. Burling is 4th in UA history in career wins. 

"Brooke is in her culminating season playing Beach Volleyball for Arizona. She has not only been a leader on the team, but also a leader within the whole academic department. She prioritizes her academics which has helped the Beach Volleyball team hold the highest GPA in the athletic department for 2 consecutive semesters," said counselor Max Krieger. "She is also a part of SAAC and was a representative for the U of A this past Fall at the Pac-12 Fall Council meeting."

Berg is a senior from Tinley Park, Illinois. She was named All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention for Uneven Bars in 2020 and is majoring in Nutritional Sciences. 

"Chrissy is a senior gymnast who has had a stellar academic performance during her time here at the U of A. She has consistently earned all A's for the last three semesters and is on track for another great semester," said counselor Sarah Barber. "I know that Chrissy works hard and stays focused to get the grades she has earned. I have no doubt that Chrissy will find success in her future endeavors."

Cope is a freshman from Newport Beach, California. He is an undecided major and excels both on and off the field. Cope made his debut for Arizona on March 6 against Houston. 

"Hunter Cope has been extremely proactive in his academics," said Learning Specialist Michelle Galambos. "He makes good connections with professors, communicates regularly with staff when he has questions and strives to get the best grade he can on assignments."

Neumann is a sophomore from Lima, Peru. He holds the Peruvian national record in the 50m back and 200m back. Neumann is majoring in Finance. 
 
"Jose is a strong student that has worked hard in the classroom since he stepped foot on campus. Just recently he was accepted into the Eller Business school and was granted the opportunity to further pursue his educational goals," said counselor Corey Talley. "Looking forward to continuing to work with this student."
