TUCSON, Ariz. – Head men's tennis coach
Clancy Shields has secured the No. 6 recruiting class in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net. The incoming 2020 class includes Herman Hoeyeraal, Jett Middleton and Gustaf Strom.
"I'm excited to see where our recruiting class landed this year," Shields said. "I really like this group of young men, they are phenomenal players and high quality character kids. They are going to help elevate our team quickly and establish our program amongst the elite teams in the country. We have been working hard on getting talented student-athletes who can help us compete for a national championship, and I think this class is a big step in the right direction. Not only has this year's recruiting class been a success, but we have now had a top-25 recruiting class the last three of four years and we are very happy with the progress we are making in the 2021 class. This consistency will help us sustain success for the long term, and continue our climb towards the mountain top of college tennis."
Not only has Arizona secured their first top-10 class in program history, the Wildcats rank second in the Pac-12 behind just Stanford, who has the top class in the country.
Hoeyeraal comes in as the top player from Norway, Middleton is rated as a five-star prospect and the top prospect coming out of Colorado and Strom comes in as the top player from Sweden.
