TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (10-3) used an eight-run seventh inning to rally past the New Mexico Lobos (4-8) to a 12-5 victory on Tuesday night, wrapping up their initial portion of non-conference play.
The Cats found themselves down two runs entering the seventh after having previously rallied to tie the game at 3-3 two innings prior. Third baseman
Jack Grant opened the inning with a leadoff single and ultimately capped the scoring nine at-bats later with a three-run home run, the first of his career.
Catcher
Daniel Susac opened the scoring in the seventh with a three-run go-ahead home run, his first of the year. Also represented in Arizona's rally was second baseman
Garen Caulfield, who delivered a clutch two-run single to center field to provide some breathing room for the Wildcats.
Arizona starting pitcher
Anthony Susac worked 5.1 innings on 78 pitches and struck out a career-high eight batters. He did not issue any walks and allowed four earned runs but did not factor into the decision.
The Wildcats bullpen was lights out in relief of Susac, working 3.2 hitless innings while allowing just one walk. Southpaw
Javyn Pimental (1-0) earned the win, the first of his career.
