TUCSON, Ariz. — Outstanding pitching was the name of the game in the Arizona Wildcats (22-10, 10-5) victory over the Washington State Cougars (12-19, 4-11) on Sunday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field. Arizona's 5-2 victory put them back in the win column after dropping their previous three.
Starting pitcher
Chandler Murphy (1-0) worked a season-high five innings against the Cougars and held them scoreless on just five hits. He issued no walks, struck out two, and earned his first win of the year.
Four Wildcat relievers combined to cover the final four innings and limited Washington State to two runs on three hits.
Already up 1-0, the Wildcats pulled away with a three-run fourth inning that included RBI singles from
Garen Caulfield and
Tyler Casagrande.

- Trevor Long earned his second save of the season after slamming the door on the Cougs in the 9th inning. He now sports an impressive 1.04 ERA, the best mark among all Arizona relievers.
