TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Baseball's slugging duo of
Chase Davis and
Kiko Romero have both been selected as Second Team All-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches Association, the organization announced today.
Today's honors marks the fourth consecutive full season in which the Wildcats have boasted at least one ABCA All-American, and the first time with multiple under head coach
Chip Hale. Romero is the first Arizona full time first baseman to earn All-America recognition from the ABCA since Harry Messick in 1958. The Wildcats were also one of only two west coast programs to pick up multiple ABCA All-America nods this season.
Together, Davis and Romero combined to produce 131 runs, 160 hits, 34 doubles, six triples, 42 home runs, and 163 RBI. At the time of the announcement the two are tied for the Pac-12 lead with 21 home runs apiece. The dynamic duo's 42 home runs are more than 63 different Division I programs collected as a team, including a pair of Power Five schools.
Davis, a junior outfielder, started all but two games for the Wildcats in left field and led the team with a .362 batting average. The California native scored 71 runs, tallied 40 extra-base hits, and drove in 74 RBI while posting a .489 on-base percentage and a .742 slugging percentage. His 21 home runs in 2023 gave him 39 for his career, the third most in program history. Davis registered 23 multi-hit efforts and 19 multi-RBI performances, marks that ranked fourth and second on the team, respectively. On defense, Davis posted a .964 fielding percentage on 110 total chances and notched an impressive five outfield assists.
Romero, a Tucson native, crushed opposing pitching to the tune of a .345 batting average with 60 runs scored, 17 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, and a school-record 89 RBI. Across 59 games he logged a .441 on-base percentage and a .724 slugging percentage while pacing the team with 24 multi-RBI performances. His glove at first base was invaluable to the Wildcats success, with Romero turning in a sparkling .995 fielding percentage on a team-leading 557 total chances while helping to turn 40 double plays.
Both players await their professional baseball destinations in next month's Major League Baseball Draft, which will take place July 9–11 in Seattle.
