Triathlon Ready for Collegiate Nationals

TUCSON, Ariz. - As the season comes to a close, the Arizona Triathlon team heads east to Clermont, Florida for the Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships.  The Wildcats qualified as a team by earning a first place spot in a tie with No.3 Arizona State at the West qualifier back in October. The Cats had eight athletes place in the top 25, with No. 3 Kelly Wetteland leading the team in her second-place finish. Arizona heads into the competition as the No. 2 ranked team in the country according to the College Triathlon Coaches Association.

The race will take place over two days, starting Friday, Nov. 8 with the Swim Time Trial at the Clermont Watersports Complex. On Saturday, Nov. 9, the event resumes with the run and bike portion of the race. This portion will be completed at Lake Louisa State Park. The Cats will compete in Heat A at 1:30 P.M. EST (11:30 A.M. MST). The logistics of the event had to be altered due to the swim portion of Lake Louisa State Park being impacted by Hurricane Milton.

All athletes will complete a swim time trial there on Friday. The time trial will consist of a one-loop, 750-yard swim, carefully organized and managed by the Kyle Joplin and the College Coaches Committee.

On Saturday, athletes will return to Lake Louisa State Park to complete the event. NCAA athletes will compete in the original bike and run segments. Saturday's start order will be based on athletes' times from Friday's swim trial.

The athletes representing the team this weekend are:
No. 3 Kelly Wetteland
No. 8 Margareta Vrablova
No. 9 Molly Lakustiak
No. 14 Ellison Wolfe
No. 40 Mia Wentzy
Lydia Russell
Dana Prikrylová

As the Cats competed in their second season they earned two first place titles at the Battle in the Fort Triathlon and the NCAA West National Qualifier. This allowed them to hold the No. 2 team ranking until the end of the season.
