SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Wildcats lost a close match with Texas Tech in Santa Barbara on Friday, falling 3-4 to the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech claimed the doubles point behind wins on courts one and two. No. 12 Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova defeated
Reece Carter and
Brandelyn Fulgenzi, 6-4, before Mariya Polishchuk and Cristina Tiglea got a 6-3 win over
Teja Tirunelveli and
Kayla Wilkins.Â
The Red Raiders took a 2-0 lead at the start of singles when No. 87 Tiglea secured a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of No. 118 Carter, and Sayfetdinova's 6-2, 6-4 win over Tirunelveli.
Texas Tech clinched the match with a win on court two as Polishchuk defeated
Martyna Ostrzygalo 6-4, 6-2.
Play continued on the remaining three courts, and Arizona got three victories to close out the contest. Wilkins gutted out a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0Â win over Metka Komac before Fulgenzi defeated Jermine Sherif 6-2, 6-2.
Midori Castillo-Meza closed out the day with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Andreea Lila.
Arizona will take on Kansas Friday, Feb. 16 at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10:00 a.m. in Santa Barbara, Calif.
