TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Baseball starting pitcher
Cam Walty has been selected to the NCBWA All-America Third Team, the organization announced this morning.
With the selection, Walty becomes the 112th All-American in program history, and the first pitcher to earn the distinction since Vince Vannelle in 2021. The Wildcats have now posted six consecutive years with at least one All-American.
Walty helped shape and define the turnaround of the Arizona pitching staff in 2024; the right-hander paced the program with eight wins and a 3.29 ERA while racking up 75 strikeouts and limiting opposing hitters to a .266 batting average. The California native's eight wins were tied for the Pac-12 lead, while his 3.29 ERA was third best on the circuit.
Along with the entire Wildcat pitching staff, Walty excelled at limiting walks in 2024; through 16 games and 90.1 innings, the righty issued just 13 walks. His average of just 1.30 walks per nine innings currently ranks as the sixth best among all Division I pitchers and goes down as the third best single-season mark in program history.
Walty was on the mound for both of the Wildcats Pac-12 Championship clinching games this season. He worked 8.1 innings and struck out eight as Arizona defeated Oregon State on May 18 to secure the Pac-12 regular season title, and followed it up by working 8.0 innings a week later against USC to help the Wildcats clinch the 2024 Pac-12 Baseball Tournament crown.
With Walty on the mound in 2024, Arizona posted an incredible 13-3 record (11-3 as a starter).
In addition to his All-America honors received today, Walty has picked up ABCA West All-Region Second Team recognition, a CSC Academic All-District selection, and Pac-12 All-Conference honors.
