LUBBOCK, Texas – Arizona Track & Field posted strong marks at the Corky Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The meet was hosted by Texas Tech at the Sports Performance Center and featured a very competitive field. The Wildcats advanced to a handful of running event finals and saw personal bests in the field and on the track.
Zach Extine highlighted day one of competition for the Wildcats, lowering his school record time in the men's 60m hurdles after originally breaking it last week. Day two was highlighted by the Wildcats sweep of the men's and women's shot put titles, with
Zach Landa and
Tapenisa Havea winning their respective events.

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
For the second straight week,
Tapenisa Havea won the women's shot put, giving her two individual event wins to start the season. Havea lost her lead in the final round of throws but ended up winning the event on her last throw, and the overall last throw, of the competition. Her winning mark on the day was 53-5 (16.28m).
Zach Landa earned his first victory of the season, winning the men's shot put with a massive throw of 64-0.25 (19.51m), which is an indoor personal best. Landa also had a throw of 63-11.5 (19.49m) in his series. Landa's winning throw currently ranks him first in the Big 12 and second in the NCAA.
Youssef Koudssi finished fifth for the Wildcats in the event as well and
Tyler Michelini placed 10th.
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
Trayvion White-Austin placed fourth overall in the men's 200m, clocking a time of 20.94.
Brian Limage had a personal best in the event, running a time of 21.60.
In the men's 3000m,
Gideon Mengich finished fourth overall with a time of 8:16.89 in his first indoor competition of the season.
Michael Urbanski placed ninth in the event as well.
In the women's 200m,
McKenna Watson placed seventh overall with a time of 23.57. In the B section of the event,
Ava Simms ran a personal best time of 24.79, and
Presley Money also clocked a personal best time.
Isaac Davis clocked a time of 1:09.65 in the men's 600y, which is second all-time in school history and just 0.10 seconds off the school record. Davis finished eighth overall. Additionally,
Christian Simmons and
Yan Vazquez finished 11th and 13th, respectively.
Kara Mickelson placed 10th overall in the women's 1000m. In the women's 600y,
Antonia Sanchez Nunez (1:23.21) placed 12th overall.
Arizona's team of
Ava Simms,
Camila Aguilar-Perez,
McKenna Watson, and
Antonia Sanchez Nunez finished seventh in the women's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:40.27.

The Wildcats are back in action next weekend for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational hosted by New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M., on January 24-25.
