EAST LANSING, Mich. - No. 10 Men's Tennis (14-2) falls 2-4 to the Michigan State Spartans on the road.
The Cats started their first of three road matches off strong, winning the doubles point. On court three, freshman pair
Filip Gustafsson and
Glib Sekachov won 6-2. The deciding point came down to court one, where No. 58
Jay Friend and
Eric Padgham were in a heated tie-breaker against No. 53 Ozan Baris and Aristotelis Thanos. The dynamic duo rose 7-0 in the breaker to win 7-6 and secure the lead for Arizona.
In singles play, first to finish was Gustafsson, who fell 2-6, 1-6 to No. 21 Thanos. Finishing next was No. 9 Friend with an outstanding, straight-set win over No. 4 Baris.
Up 2-1, the Cats dropped matches on courts two and four to drop 2-3. The clinching court came down to five, where
Casper Christensen was in a three-set battle. Ultimately, he fell 2-6, 6-0, 3-6 and the win went to the Spartans.
Arizona is back on the road for a match against Kalamazoo College tomorrow, March 13, at 2:00 p.m. MST.
