TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (17-5, 4-1) dropped their first game of Big 12 play on Saturday afternoon with an 11-3 loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers (19-2, 2-1).
The Wildcats claimed leads of 2-0 and 3-2 before surrendering a seven-run fourth inning that sunk their chances.
Catcher
Tommy Splaine's solo home run in the top of the fourth inning, his first homer of the year, briefly gave Arizona a 3-2 lead.
Starting pitcher
Owen Kramkowski took his second loss of the season after working 3.1 innings and allowing eight runs, six of which were earned.
Right-handed reliever
Raul Garayzar worked 2.2 innings and allowed just one run, while fellow righty
Carson Johnson posted a scoreless eighth inning with a pair of strikeouts.
