TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 11 Men's Tennis (18-4 overall, 3-2 Big 12) completed a clean sweep of their conference home-opening weekend with a 4-0 win over Texas Tech Sunday afternoon.
To start off Sunday, Arizona won the doubles point and gained the early lead with wins on courts one and two. Finishing first was No. 33
Eric Padgham and
Jay Friend winning 6-3 over Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak. Clinching the point for the Cats was senior-freshman duo Inaki Cabrera-Bello and
Glib Sekachov with a 7-5 battle over Takeyasu Sekiguchi and Tyler Stewart.
In singles play, senior
Casper Christensen got the first point for Arizona with a 6-2, 6-4 straight-set win on court five over Felipe Pagnacco. Next up, sophomore standout
Alexander Rozin lifted the Cats to a 3-0 lead with a 6-2, 7-6(5) victory over Ludovico Vaccari. Clinching the match for the second time this weekend was singles leader and No. 8 Friend with a 7-6(4), 6-2 defeat over Pawlak on court one.
Arizona has two home matches remaining, both coming this week with a match up against Utah on Thursday, April 3, at 2:00 p.m. MST, and their senior day match on Saturday, April 5, against Brigham Young at 1:00 p.m. MST.
