TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 8 Men's Tennis (13-1) cruises by St. John's and Northern Arizona 4-0, 4-0 in their doubleheader Friday afternoon at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.Â
Against the Red Storm, Arizona gained the early lead after securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. In the top spot, dynamic duo and 58 ranked
Jay Friend and
Eric Padgham extended their win streak to 9-0 with a 6-4 win over the Red Storm's Max Amling and Armando Sotelo. On court two, Inaki Cabrera-Bello and
Alexander Rozin clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Leonardo Mileikowsky and Ignacio Vinas.Â
The Cats swept their opponents to a 4-0 finish with wins on courts one, three and four- all in straight sets. First to finish was No. 9 Friend as he breezed by Amling 6-2, 6-0, bringing his dual record to a leading 11-0. The junior is 6-0 in the court one position, and 5-0 on court two. Next to finish was freshman
Filip Gustafsson with a swift 6-1, 6-3 win over Vinas. Clinching the first match for Arizona was senior
Casper Christensen with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Mileikowsky.Â
Gearing up for their second match of the day, Arizona once again nabbed the doubles point with wins from Cabrera-Bello and
Oskar Jansson on court three and Gustasson and
Glib Sekachov on court two.Â
Singles play went similarly the second time around, with three straight-set wins to take the match. First to finish was freshman Matthias Kask winning 6-1, 6-2 against Takumi Katsuda on court five. Next door, sophomore
Cole Stelse gave Arizona the 3-0 lead on court six winning 6-3, 6-3 over Mateusz Lange. Clinching the Cats win over NAU was first-year
Oskar Jansson on four with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat over Jakub Volesky.Â
The Cats will go on to play Tulsa on Sunday, March 9, at Robson at 12:00 p.m. MST.Â
