AMES, Iowa. – In a tightly contested match, the No. 31 Arizona Wildcats fell 3-4 to the No. 59 Iowa State Cyclones on Friday afternoon in Ames.
Arizona started strong in doubles play, securing the point with victories on courts three and one. Belen Nevenhoven and Midori Castillo-Meza claimed a 6-3 win over Suzanie Pretorius and Valeska San Martin (ISU) on court three, followed by Josie Usereau and Danielle Tuhten clinching the point with a 6-4 victory over Anna Kuearum and Cris Ramos Sierra (ISU) on court one.
Heading into singles with a 1-0 lead, With a 1-0 lead heading into singles, the Wildcats fought hard but fell short. Arizona secured wins from Midori Castillo-Meza, who defeated Julia Camblor (ISU) 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 on court two, and Tanvi Narendran, who took down Suzanie Pretorius (ISU) 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 on court five. However, Iowa State claimed victories on courts one, three, four, and six to seal the match.
Arizona will look to bounce this Sunday, March 9th, as they travel to No. 49 Kansas. Doubles play will begin at 10:00 a.m. MST and will be available to watch via Kansas' PlaySight (watch).
