Tucson, Ariz. (Sept. 21) -- The University of Arizona women's soccer team played to a 2-2 overtime tie with Pepperdine at home on Friday night.
Pepperdine junior Kristi Bissonnette struck first for Pepperdine, taking a serve from Lacey Ubaldi to score through the Wildcat defense at 17:33. Neither team scored for the remainder of the period. Arizona freshman forward Vanesha Bailey broke the shutout at 52:11, scoring her third goal of the season off an assist by senior defender Cassidy Guinn.
Just over three minutes later, freshman Cassie Daniels put the Cats ahead, 2-1. It was also her third goal of the season, with senior midfielder Twila Kaufman assisting. Arizona held off the Waves for nearly 20 minutes before Bissonnette struck again at 73:21 after a scramble in the Wildcat box. Neither team was able to dent the net during the two overtime periods.
Daniels tallied a game-high seven shots, including six on-goal. Bissonnette registered a team-high five shots, with three on-goal. Wildcat senior goalkeeper Shannon Monti collected a season-high 11 saves as Pepperdine out-shot the UA, 25-16. Lindsey Brouillette was in the nets for the Waves, registering five saves.
On a modest three-game unbeaten streak, Arizona goes to 2-1-1 on the year, while Pepperdine remains undefeated at 3-0-2. The Wildcats will wrap up a four-game home stand on Sunday, Sept. 23, against UNLV at 1 p.m.
