Flagstaff, Ariz.- The University of Arizona men and women's track and field team took to Flagstaff Saturday to compete in the 2016 Lumberjack Team Challenge at Northern Arizona University.
"I thought we had a really good first competition," head coach Fred Harvey said. "We competed really hard, well, and at a high level. To be able to open up with some of the marks we had was very satisfying. Pau was definitely one of the highlights with the 17 feet and 5 3/4 of an inch on the pole vault. All the 400 meter runners, we had three young ladies that set PRs. They dominated. I was very happy with how everyone came together and supported one another. It was a great start."
Pau Tonnesen led the way today as he set a new personal record in the men's pole vault with a mark of 17-6.5 (5.35m). Harrison Ivie finished in sixth place with a mark of 15-5.00 (4.70m) and Logan Westlake finished ninth with a height of 13-11.25 (4.25m).
In the Women's High Jump Lisanne Hagens finished in first place with a mark of 5-8.75 (1.75m).
"I'm pretty excited," Hagens said. "It was a good opener. I thought it went really well but I feel like there is more to come."
Emily Gerard took second place as well with a score of 5-7.0 (1.70m).
Addi Zerrener took home a first-place finish in the Women's one-mile run with a time of 5:11.01. Taryn Estavillo finished in 11th with a time of 5:40.21, and Hannah Whetzel finished in 14th with a time of 5:49.32.
Alyssa Thompson took second place in the Women's Long Jump with a score of 18-6.0 (5.64m).
Tatum Waggoner finished in first for the Women's 400-meter race with a time of 54.39, Nnenya Hailey finished in third with a time of 54.90, Gia Trevisan finished in fourth clocking in at 55.48, Jasper Gray finished in eighth with a time of 55.98, Morgan Struble finished in ninth with a time of 56.34, and Katelin Warren finished in twentieth place with a time of 58.50.
For the Men's 400-meter race Michael Demby led the way with a sixth-place finish and clocked in at 49.43. Gustavs Kehris also competed and placed 13th with a time of 51.12.
In the Men's 800-meter race Hunter Davila finished in third place with a time of 1:56.59 with Daniom Tecle finishing right behind him in fourth place with a time of 1:56.75. Miles Parish earned a 13th place finish clocking in at 1:59.02.
In the Women's 800-meter race McKenna Gaffney finished in sixth place with a time of 2:24.35, Kayla Ferron finished in eighth with a time of 2:28.02, Margie Moyer finished ninth with a time of 2:29.05, Tiffany Riley finished in 16th place with a time of 2:33.42.
In the Men's 60-meter race Derek Ware finished in seventeenth with a time of 7.08 and Isaac Hing finished in nineteenth with a time of 7.17.
In the Women's 60-meter race Traci-Lynn Hicks finished in 14th with a time of 7.82 and Aleah Hurst finished twenty-seventh with a time of 8.09.
In the Women's 60-meter hurdles Alyssa Thompson finished in 16th with a time of 9.20.
In the Women's 4x400 meter relay race Arizona dominated coming in first place with team 'A', consisting of Nnenya Hailey, Tatum Waggoner, Gia Travison, and Jasper Gray pacing the rest of the pack at a time of 3:42.91. Arizona's 'B' team placed third consisting of Elizabeth Smith, Morgan Struble, Alyssa Thompson, and Katelin Warren. They clocked in at 3:49.05.
In the Men's 4x400 meter relay Arizona had one squad compete and finish in fourth place. That team included Miles Parish, Michael Demby, Gustavs Kehris, and Pau Tonneson.
Aaron Castle finished in sixth in the Men's Shot Put with a toss of 57-10.50 (17.64m) and Viktor Gardenkranz finished in ninth with a mark of 52-10.75 (16.12m). Amarissa Hawker finished in seventh in the Women's Shot Put with a mark of 46-6.25 (14.18m).
Grayson Fleming finished in fourth place in the Men's weight throw with a toss of 50-7.5 (15.43m).ey
Savannah Whitehead finished in seventh place in the Women's Pole Vault with a mark of 11-1.75 (3.40m).
Harry Zimmerman finished in eighth place in the Men's Long Jump with a score of 20-5.75 (6.24m).
The Track Cats are back in action next weekend as they head to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the Conference Clash/Power 5 Invitational, which begins on Friday, Jan. 22.
