Wildcat Wednesday - Reminder on Clear Bag Policy for All Events

85501 85502

REMINDER ON CLEAR BAG POLICY FOR ALL EVENTS

We want to remind everyone of the clear bag policy that has been implemented for all of our home events. You can read the full policy and a list of prohibited bags by clicking HERE. The policy limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into our venues. As a reminder, prohibited bags may not be placed in a clear bag in order to gain entry. The clear bag is to be used as a substitute for any bag that appears on the prohibited list. The following is a list of bags that will be accepted for entry:

  • Bags that are clear plastic or vinyl and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, after being searched
  • Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection, including but not limited to oxygen tanks, diabetes kits, allergy pens, etc.

If you don't yet have an acceptable clear bag, The University of Arizona BookStores has them available for order online by clicking HERE.

This is not a restriction on items you were previously allowed to bring into our venues; it is only a restriction on the type of container used to carry items. Your souvenir cups, unopened water, Kleenex and personal items will all be permitted into the arena if carried in one bag that meets the criteria listed above.

Personal items may be enclosed in a small clutch bag, approximately the size of a hand. These small bags will be searched. The no food and beverage policy will remain in effect, however, medically necessary items will be permitted after proper inspection.

We ask that you be aware of this policy when attending our events and hope you will share this information with friends and family so they are aware as well. We appreciate your continued cooperation with the clear bag policy.

ARIZONA PROFESSOR CONTINUES HIS WORK IN THE SCIENCE OF BASEBALL

We were alerted to the continuing work of UA Professor of Systems & Industrial Engineering Ricardo Valerdi, who teamed up with the Diamondbacks in 2013 to share the Science of Baseball program he created. The premise of the program started with the book Moneyball, which showcased the connection between math and baseball, and is geared towards fifth-to-eighth graders in over 200 schools throughout the state. The main purpose is to try and help get young people interested in math via sport.

At the end of September, Ricardo did an in-depth interview during the Diamondbacks game against San Diego. He goes in depth about the program and you can click HERE if you'd like to listen in and learn more.

In addition to Ricardo's work for the UA and throughout the state, he's also becoming more involved with the athletics department. If you recall, last spring, we tapped into his expertise to help with an ESPN request to explain how wind resistance, elevation and trajectory effects the distance a softball will travel. Now, our C.A.T.S. Academics department is working with him to develop some workshops for our student-athletes that will be based on sports and analytics.

We want to thank Ricardo for his work in our communities and we look forward to seeing our student-athletes benefit from his knowledge.

We're going to have an early Black Friday Special Offer for the game. Tickets will be $25 starting this Friday, Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. These are for general admission tickets in the ZonaZoo section, as most students will be on Thanksgiving break. 8TH ANNUAL SCHOOL DAY AT MCKALE

Women's basketball started the Adia Barns era off on the right foot with a win in their regular-season opener. For our next home game, we'll host the 8th Annual School Day at McKale against North Texas on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. and the first 6,000 fans will receive a rally towel courtesy of OrthoPros.

We want to make this event exciting and enjoyable for everyone. Therefore, reserved seating will be provided for all season ticket holders in the lower level of sections 2, 3, 4, 14, 15, 16, Loge 3 and Loge 15. These sections will be designated for season ticket holders only, as all other seating will be considered general admission for this game. Season ticket holders, who currently have season tickets in these sections, please be aware that these sections will be designated as a reserved general admission area and filled on a first-come, first-served basis for this game only. Parking will be available in the Cherry garage and the McKale Lawn for $4 per vehicle. If you carpool (four or more in a vehicle), you can park in the lots south of 6th St. for free. CATS IN THE COMMUNITY

Our student-athletes are continuing to find ways to volunteer in the local community. Many of our teams have been volunteering at walks and runs that support local nonprofits. Others have been visiting patients at the hospital and speaking to classes about the importance of a college education.

Prior to every home football game, members of the team visit with patients at Diamond Children's Medical Center. We believe they have an equal impact on one another during the visit. The goal is to spread joy and what it means to 'Bear Down.'

Recently, members of the beach volleyball team volunteered at the Kids of Steele 6th Annual Mini Golf Tournament that benefited the University of Arizona Steele Children's Research Center. They helped attendees make snack packs and "dream boxes" that would be handed out to patients.

As they prepared for the season, the women's basketball team set out to hand deliver tickets to season ticket holders in the community. They wanted to thank them for their continued support and share their excitement for the new season.

If you know of a non-profit that would benefit from the helping hands of our student-athletes, please let us know by submitting an online request by clicking HERE. We won't be able to fulfill every request, but we try to get to as many as we can. If you have any questions, please contact Natasha Harrison at naharris@arizona.edu.
