AUSTIN, Texas – Arizona swimming closed out day one of the Texas Invitational with two top-four finishes in the 800 free relay and a new school record in the women's 200 medley relay. The women earned two NCAA 'A' cuts while the men earned a 'B' cut in their relay.
The Cats ended the day by breaking a long-standing school record in the 200 medley relay in a time trial. Sophomore
Taylor Garcia, freshman
Kennedy Lohman, sophomore
Annie Ochitwa and sophomore
Katrina Konopka touched the wall with a time of 1:34.63, earning an 'A' cut while setting a new Arizona record.
The previous record was 1:35.29, set by Hailey DeGolia, Annie Chandler, Lara Jackson and Anna Turner in 2008. The team's relay time was also only 48-hundredths of a set over the current NCAA record.
The women had success earlier in the day in the 800 free relay. Freshman
Hannah Cox, junior
Cameron McHugh, sophomore
Emma McCarthy and sophomore
Sarah Shimomura finished second in the event with an 'A' cut time of 7:01.08.
For the men, the team of junior
Riccardo Maestri, sophomore
Parks Jones, senior
Thane Maudslien and junior
Nick Thorne took fourth in the 800 free relay with 6:22.02, also notching an NCAA 'B' cut.
