AUSTIN, Texas – On the third day of the Texas Invitational, the Cats notched 35 NCAA 'B' cuts (19 for men and 16 for women). Arizona also had six top-three finishes in individual events.
Freshman
Kennedy Lohman highlighted the women, finishing runner-up in the 100 breast and earning her second individual 'B' cut (59.97). Freshman
Mallory Korenwinder and junior
Alexandra Martelle also got provisional cuts.
Arizona's
Annie Ochitwa took third in the 100 fly with a time of 52.09 followed by sophomore
Mackenzie Rumrill with 52.37, both notching 'B' cuts. Sophomore
Taylor Garcia also swam under the 'B' cut time standard in the event.
Freshman
Hannah Cox continued her success with a third-place finish in the 400 IM for a second 'B' cut (4:10.00). Sophomore
Daniela Georges took seventh for a 'B' cut with a time of 4:17.44. Sophomore
Jenna Bauer and junior
Tjasa Oder also earned 'B' cuts in the event.
Adding to the women's momentum was sophomore
Katrina Konopka who placed third in the 100 back, tallying her second 'B' cut of the invitational (52.02). Garcia took sixth in the event with 52.71 followed by Ochitwa with 53.02 for 'B' cuts.
Junior
Cameron McHugh finished sixth in the 200 free for another 'B' cut (1:46.06). Freshman
Kirsten Jacobsen and sophomore
Emma McCarthy also notched 'B' cuts.
For the men, sophomore
Will Wihanto led the night with a second-place finish in the 100 breast, touching in 52.18 and earning a 'B' cut. Senior
Gage Crosby took fifth in the event (53.39) while sophomore
Matthew Salerno took eighth (54.19). Sophomore
Blair Bish then finished first in the B final with a time of 53.18. All three notched provisional cuts.
Sophomore
Chad Idensohn had a strong performance in the 100 fly, taking third with 46.25 for a 'B' cut. Idensohn was followed by sophomore
Chatham Dobbs who added a 'B' cut for the Cats (46.39). Senior
Renny Richmond, junior
Justin Wright, sophomore
Mathias Oh and freshman
Brendan Meyer also earned provisional cuts.
Two swimmers finished in the top eight of the 400 IM.
Nick Thorne placed fifth (3:42.59) followed by junior
Riccardo Maestri (3:49.28). Freshman
Steven Medvedev finished third in the B final with 3:51.12 as all three men notched 'B' cuts.
Freshman
Jorge Iga then took sixth in the 200 free with a time of 1:35.00 for a 'B' cut. Sophomore
Parks Jones, senior
Thane Maudslien, freshman
Brendan Meyer and junior
J.P. Beach all also got provisional cuts in the event.
Closing out the night was freshman
Thomas Anderson who earned the sole 'B' cut for Arizona in the 100 back, finishing eighth with a time of 48.12.
The Cats did not compete in the 200 medley relay as both the men and women swam in a time trial on day one. Garcia, Lohman, Ochitwa and Konopka broke the school record for the women and earned an 'A' cut with a time of 1:34.63. Dobbs, Wihanto, Idensohn and Beach also notched an 'A' cut in the event with a time of 1:24.39.
Up Next: Arizona concludes the Texas Invitational on Saturday starting off at 8 a.m. MST with the 200 back prelims. Other events on the final day include the 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1,650 free and 400 free relay.
