TUCSON, ARIZ., --This afternoon the Wildcats put up an exciting last home match but couldn't keep up with No. 73 Utah, as they were beat 6-1 at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center on senior day.
The Wildcats started the afternoon off in doubles play. Shoki Kasahara and Matt Dunn were beat by Egbert Weverink and Freddie McGeehan on court three 6-1while Will Adkisson and Naoki Takeda were beat by Parker McGuiness and Jamey Swiggart 6-3 on court two, giving Utah a 1-0 lead.
Will Kneale and Oliver Plaskett were tied 3-3 with Dan Little and Matt Cowley until their match was abandoned.
After doubles play. Arizona's four seniors, Jason Jaruvang, Trevor James, Matt Dunn and Naoki Takeda were honored for their time playing for the University of Arizona. Head coach Tad Berkowitz was also recognized and thanked for his time at Arizona.
Following the senior ceremony, the Cats started singles play. Oliver Plaskett was beat by Parker McGuiness on court five 6-1, 6-4, while Will Kneale was beat by David Micevski on court two 6-2, 6-3.
With Utah leading 3-0, Shoki Kasahara turned things around, as he beat Jamey Swiggart on court six 7-5, 6-4, giving Arizona their first singles point.
The three remaining courts that were in play made for an exciting match, as they all pushed their opponents to three sets. Unfortunately, their efforts fell short.
Jason Jaruvang was beat by Dan Little 7-6, 2-6, 6-1 on court three, giving Utah their fourth point to clinch the match.
Trent Botha pushed until the very end, but lost in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(12-10), making the score 5-1.
After winning the second set, Naoki Takeda pushed Matt Cowley to a 10-point tiebreaker, but fell short on court one 7-6, 6-7, 1-0(5).
The Wildcats will be heading to the Pac-12 Championships on Tuesday and will start their first day of play on Wednesday.
