#WEREMEMBER INITIATIVES RAISE OVER $50,000

We want to start this week by giving you an update on some of the initiatives around the Pearl Harbor and U.S.S. Arizona remembrances.

First, our collaboration with The Underestimated City to sell jersey t-shirts to benefit Arizona Final Salute, a fundraising campaign run by Randy and Nikki Stratton to help U.S.S. Arizona survivors return to Pearl Harbor for the 75th anniversary, has already generated over $31,000. The Underestimated City will continue taking online orders for the t-shirt through this Friday, so if you haven't already, you can order by clickingHERE. If you'd like to donate directly to Arizona Final Salute, you can do so by clicking HERE.

Second, our jersey/helmet auction to benefit the UA's U.S.S. Arizona Mall Memorial closed on Sunday night and we were able to raise $22,125 for the project. If you'd like to learn more about the Mall Memorial project, the University released an article earlier this week that you can read by clicking HERE.

Saturday's game, and all the elements going on around it, was one of the best events I've ever been a part of. We were able to host one of the U.S.S. Arizona's six living survivors, Mr. Lauren Bruner, along with a number of World War II veterans. It was amazing to be with them during a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, the ceremonial coin toss and a halftime recognition.

To be able to cap off the wonderful weekend by helping raise money for these important initiatives really puts it over the top for me. We can't thank those of you that chose to contribute enough. You've made a difference in the lives of the survivors and their families and will help the University in its quest to continue remembering the sacrifice of the 1,177 officers and crewmen who lost their lives aboard the U.S.S. Arizona on Dec. 7, 1941.

The hard work of so many, both inside and outside of the athletics department, really made for a special night. Thank you to everyone involved. It will be a night we never forget.

A NOTE ON OUR CUSTOM U.S.S. ARIZONA UNIFORM GRAPHICS

It came to our attention that in putting together our announcement and promotional graphics for the custom U.S.S. Arizona uniforms, we used artwork created by Abram Joslin, specifically the side-profile drawings of the U.S.S. Arizona in the graphic below. We failed to credit Abram with the use and we want to rectify that by mentioning him here.

Abram has been a graphic artist for 10 years and is an Arizona native who resides in Phoenix with his wife and three children. He's studied history, especially World War II and the Pearl Harbor attack, and has had a special interest in the U.S.S. Arizona, spending a lot of time researching the ship and its history.

Abram's drawings provided a nice touch to our graphics and we should have credited him upfront, but we're glad we were able to connect with him. Thank you for what you do Abram.

CZARNIAK INTERNS AT NIKE

A nice piece of our partnership with NIKE is the opportunity for our student-athletes to secure internships at the World Headquarters. Last summer, Samantha Czarniak from women's tennis completed one of those internships and we want to share what her experience was like in her own words.

What department did you work in and what were your responsibilities?

I worked with Nike's tennis department as a sales analyst. I did weekly sales reports, organized data and sales information, and worked throughout the summer on market mapping for FY' 18-20. I forecasted sales for the next three years across all their geos (North America, Central and Eastern Europe, Greater China, Japan, Western Europe, and Emerging Markets) to help the team understand where the products were selling and where future trends were.

What transferable skills did you use?

The transferable skills I used were definitely communication skills and time management. Working for a matrix organization where various departments (merchandising, sales, finance, marketing) work together definitely required me to communicate with many different people. In addition, we were assigned different daily tasks and projects and were part of many meetings which required time management skills.

What was your biggest success?

My biggest success was getting to present my intern combine project to Phil Knight (co-founder of Nike). In the last week of our internship, we presented our project to judges and most of our managers, and the top three teams got to present the following week to Phil Knight. It was an honor to be able to present my project in front of very successful business people and I got to not only present to Phil Knight, but also meet and talk to him in person! It was a very rewarding week!

What did you learn professionally and personally?

I learned the importance of being a sponge - retaining and learning the most you can from everyone that works with you or in the company. I also learned the importance of always having a positive attitude and being open to helping and doing more than what is required. I think I learned about the business side of a company, but the most important thing I got out of my internship is to always be willing to help and give back.

FOOTBALL OPENS PAC-12 PLAY AT #OURHOUSE VS. WASHINGTON

Football's non-conference season is in the books. Pac-12 play is here and we start off with a bang. The Washington Huskies come in ranked ninth in the nation for a showdown this Saturday night. Coach Rodriguez is looking to improve to 4-1 when playing teams ranked in the Top 10 at home. We'll need your help to get there. Tickets start at $20 for adults and $10 for kids. Click HERE to buy online or call (520) 621-CATS in the morning. We're looking forward to seeing you at #OURHOUSE this Saturday!

FUTURE OF THE CAT CRUISER

There are still spots available on the Cat Cruiser for this Saturday's football game. As a reminder, the Cat Cruiser is a program that provides transportation from the Phoenix area to home football games and back. It costs $20 per person to ride and there are two routes to choose from. Recently, ridership on the route-2 bus has been a little light, which might cause us to scale down to one route. If you're from the Valley and have an opinion on why you ride the Cat Cruiser, or why you don't ride, we'd like to hear from you. Email ica-marketing@email.arizona.edu. You can make a reservation by clicking HERE.

BUY TICKETS WITH A TEXT

Last year, we started Arizona Text 4 Tix, a program designed to make purchasing tickets simple and fun. The program's popularity has grown. We set a record for most tickets sold through Text 4 Tix with the Grambling State game and then crushed that number this past weekend vs. Hawai'i. How it works is simple. Register to receive text message alerts on available ticket offers and sync your credit card to your cell phone. After you receive a text message on a ticket offer, just send a reply text of "CATS" and the number of tickets you'd like to buy. You'll receive a bar code to your phone and that will be your ticket to the game. To sign up, text CATS to 20123 or click HERE.

USE METROPIA ON GAME DAY TO SEE AVAILABLE PARKING IN REAL TIME

The University of Arizona has partnered with Metropia to assist with parking on campus for major events, such as football games. Fans attending home football games this season can use the free Metropia app to see which campus parking lots have available spaces, their locations and their pricing.

Parking options are displayed every home game this season by Metropia. Simply tap the lot desired on the map and then tap the time you plan to leave for the game, and the Metropia app navigates you to the best parking spaces while avoiding the heaviest traffic.

All fans using the Metropia app to get to the game are automatically entered to win exclusive halftime giveaways. Winners are announced via the mobile app at halftime. Click HERE to get the app on your phone.

WILDCAT CLUB MEMBER APPRECIATION AT FAN FIESTA

Each week as our student-athletes suit up and compete, we're reminded that it wouldn't be possible without the support of our Wildcat Club members.

This week, in anticipation of our Pac-12 football opener, we want to say thank you. Beginning four hours prior to kickoff, Wildcat Club members are invited to stop by the Wildcat Club table at Fan Fiesta and show their membership card to pick-up an exclusive Wildcat Club t-shirt (limited supply so be sure to arrive early).

Join the Wildcat Club today by clicking HERE to support Arizona student-athletes and also qualify for a variety of special opportunities, like Saturday's giveaway. You won't want to miss this one!

CATS IN THE COMMUNITY

With school back in full swing, our student-athletes are heading into the Tucson community to volunteer. The men's tennis team recently spoke to the Catalina Foothills School District C.A.R.E. Program about life as a student-athlete. They also shared that in order to achieve goals, one has to be determined and needs to have the ability to be a team player.

While the football team is gearing up for home games, they like to stop by and visit children at Diamond Children's Medical Center. While spreading Wildcat cheer at the hospital, they also hand out Journey Journals to the patients. These journals are hand decorated by student-athletes and each have an encouraging message written inside. Our student-athletes hope the patients will use these journals for reflection and strength.

The Office of Community Relations offers free tours of Arizona Athletics and surrounding facilities for nonprofit organizations and schools. Often, our student-athletes like to tag along on the tours and meet with the visitors. They offer a great perspective of how the facilities are utilized. If you are interested in scheduling a tour for your classroom or nonprofit organization, you can submit an online request by clicking HERE. Once on the site, you can review our policy and submit an online request. If you have any questions, please call the Office of Community Relations at (520) 621-2331.

In addition, if you know of a non-profit that would benefit from the helping hands of our student-athletes, please let us know by submitting an online request by clickingHERE. We won't be able to fulfill every request, but we try to get to as many as we can. If you have any questions, please contact Natasha Harrison atnaharris@arizona.edu.
