TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona's first home tournament of the fall saw a successful first day, as the Wildcat Invitational started on Friday, Oct. 13 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.
The Wildcats are represented by four players, including
Maggie Cohen,
Elena Schneider,
Sophia Thomas and newcomer
Taylor Tamblyn.
In the Red Flight, Cohen fell to New Mexico's Danielle Quevedo 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. In the White Flight, Thomas dropped a 6-2, 7-5 match to Washington State's Aneta Miksovska. In the Blue Flight, both Schneider and Tamblyn came away with victories over New Mexico players. Schneider defeated Yue Lin "Polly" Chen 6-5, 7-5, while Tamblyn beat Jaci Fulgenzi 6-0, 6-0.
In the Doubles Red Flight, Thomas Tamblyn lost to Michálková/Ates of Washington State 6-0. Cohen/Schneider defeated Arizona Christian's Okano/Morgan 6-3.
UP NEXT
Cohen is set to face New Mexico's Hsiang-Wen "Albie" Huang. Thomas will battle Washington State's Melisa Ates. Tamblyn will play New Mexico's Natasha Munday. Schneider will play Marquette's Isabella Franks.
Thomas/Tamblyn are scheduled to square off against Marquette's Amortegui/Foe. Cohen/Schneider will face Franks/Tomey (Marquette and Washington State, respectively).
The matches will take place at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center, which is located just east of Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium on 2nd street and Campbell Ave. Admission is free of charge. Doubles will start at 9:30 a.m. MST, with singles action to follow at approximately 10:15.
