FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Men's swimming and diving closed out the Pac-12 Championships in fifth place with a total score of 360. Stanford took the Pac-12 team title (784) followed by California (767) and USC (657). The Cats tallied 17 NCAA 'B' cuts on day 4, 16 individual and one relay.
Sophomore
Justin Wright led the men on the final day with a third-place finish in the 200 fly. Wright won the prelim with a time of 1:41.91, then finished third in the final with 1:41.88. Both were season-best times, the latter only 12-hundredths away from his school record set last year.
In the B final of the 200 fly, junior
Nick Thorne was runner-up with 1:44.46 while freshman
Brendan Meyer was fourth with 1:44.59. Sophomore
Mathias Oh won the C final of the event (1:45.47) followed by junior
Riccardo Maestri (1:46.45).
Arizona notched its second-best finish on the day in the 400 free relay. The team of
Chatham Dobbs,
Jorge Iga,
Parks Jones and Thorne took fifth for a season-best time of 2:52.79 and an NCAA 'A' cut.
To start of the finals, freshman
Jerad Kaskawal finished eighth in the 1,650 free (5:20.07) followed by junior
Chris Wieser (15:21.63).
In the A final of the 200 back, senior
Thane Maudslien finished eighth with 1:43.33. Freshman
Thomas Anderson was runner-up in the B final (1:43.83) while sophomore
Matt Lujan was eighth (1:46.16). In the C final, freshman
Steven Medvedev placed second with 1:46.21.
Freshman Iga then finished eighth in the 100 free with 43.42 after posting a season-best 43.08 in the prelims. In the B final, sophomore Jones took fifth with 43.71.
In the B final of the 200 breast, sophomore Matt Salerno notched fifth place with 1:56.70. Senior
Gage Crosby won the C final (1:58.29) followed by sophomore
Blair Bish (1:58.34). Redshirt freshman
Will Wihanto took sixth in the C final with a season-best 2:01.09.
