TUCSON, Ariz.– The eighth-ranked Arizona Beach Volleyball team just added another win to its record as the team earned a victory against Stanford, (3-2) to begin senior weekend. UA now holds a record of (14-8), with No. 1 senior pair of Madison and
McKenna Witt and No. 3 duo of
Hailey Devlin and
Sam Manley leading the team with a (16-6) record.
The Wildcats opened up the evening of play ready to battle. Stanford's No. 4 team of Catherine Raquel and Shannon Richardson picked up a win against
Mia Mason and
Brooke Burling, (21-15, 21-18). Arizona's
Natalie Anselmo and
Halli Amaro of the No. 5 tandem would then go on to put a point on the board for UA as they downed Kat Anderson and Chelsea Red-Horse Mohl in straight sets, (21-15, 21-18).
Madison and
McKenna Witt, the No. 1 senior twin duo kept the stamina up as they defeated Stanford's pair of Kathryn Plummer and Jenna Gray in consecutive sets, (21-11, 21-18).This was one of two of the 'Witt's' last regular season matches at home.
"It's so sad and exciting that it is coming to an end", said Senior
Madison Witt. "We have had an amazing experience here as Wildcats, and I don't think we're ready to give it up yet, so we're going to play our hearts out tomorrow and the rest of the time that we're here. We're going to miss it, ultimately."
Stanford would then go on to get another win as their No. 3 pair of Morgan Hentz and Caitlin Keefe took down
Hailey Devlin and
Sam Manley, (21-15, 21-17) tying the overall team scores.
UA's No. 2 duo of
Olivia Hallaran and
Olivia Macdonald were the deciding factor in the win. The 'Olivia's' battled it out in a three-set rally against Ivana Vanjak and Payton Chang, (18-21, 21-19, 21-19) taking the match in the hard fought third set.
The Wildcat's will hit the sand tomorrow for Senior Day as they take on Cal at 12 p.m. MST. Arizona Beach Volleyball will celebrate its seniors 30 minutes prior to the match start time.
