Arizona Sweeps Quad Meet to Open New Year

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona women's swimming and diving opened 2018 with a quad meet sweep, defeating Rice, New Mexico State and NAU on Friday afternoon at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.

Final scores from each of the Wildcats' dual meets was as follows:

Arizona 151, Rice 121
Arizona 154.5, NAU 137.5
Arizona 168, New Mexico State 122

The Wildcats won 12 of the 14 swimming events, though UA did exhibition some swims to keep the final scores competitive. Hannah Cox (1,000 free, 200 free), Mallory Korenwinder (100 breast, 200 breast) and Mackenzie Rumrill (200 fly, 100 fly) won two events each while Daniela Georges (100 back), Morgan Ginnis (50 free), Cameron McHugh (200 back) and Kirsten Jacobsen (500 free) won one event apiece.

Georges, Korenwinder, Rumrill and Ginnis won the 200 medley relay to get the quad-meet going with a time of 1:41.98

Cox won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:02.01 followed by Claire Lockridge in second 10:12.93. Jacobsen won the second heat with a time of 10:15.64.

Cox, just minutes after winning the 1,000, took heat 1 of the 200 free in a time of 1:49.35. McHugh finished second with a time of 1:50.26. In the second heat, Jamie Stone touched first 1:52.02 and Jacobsen second with a time of 1:52.83.

Georges won the the 100 backstroke with a time of 55:04. Jenna Bauer won the second heat and finished second overall with a time of 57.69.

The 100 yard breastroke went to Korenwinder with a time of 1:03.76 in the first heat.

Rumrill touched first in the 200 butterfly at 2:01.99. Mik Ranslem finished third with a time of 2:02.28.

Ginnis won the 50 free in a time of 23.39.

McHugh won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:57.86.

Korenwinder won her second event of the meet in the 200 breast, touching first with a time of 2:20.20 in the first heat.

Jacobsen touched first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:57.36. Bauer won the second heat and finished second overall with a time of 5:01.46.

Following her 200 fly victory, Rumrill made it a clean sweep of the stroke with a victory in the 100 butterly (54.04). Laura Kurki (57.52) won the second heat.

Arizona finished up the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay, taking first and second in the event.

Up Next: Arizona resumes conference play with a visit to the Bay Area schools later this month. The Wildcats will take on Stanford in Palo Alto on Jan. 19 and California in Berkeley on Jan. 20.
