Arizona Opens Season at Grand Canyon on Saturday

2017-18 Recap
The Wildcat women finished 4-5 last season, placing fifth at Pac-12 Championships and 20that NCAA Championships. The men went 1-5 on the season, placing fifth at Pac-12 Championships and 16that NCAAs. 
 
History versus Grand Canyon
Neither the men nor the women have competed against GCU in the last ten years. Last season, the Grand Canyon women won all three dual meets of the season, and competed in five multi-team competitions. The Lopes men won five and lost three meets in the 2017-18 season.
 
Key Freshman
Arizona swimming and diving welcomed a combined seventeen freshman and two transfers this season, including four divers. 

Freshman Monica Gumina holds the Texas state record in the 100, 200, and 500 free and is a six-time All-American. Junior transfer Ayumi Macias earned 14 NCAA qualifiers in two years at Arkansas, and holds the second-fastest 400 free-time in school history, and is a member of the Mexican National Team.

Freshman diver Eric Correa is a two-time Conference Champion and four-time Sectional Champion, and a member of the Puerto Rican National Team. Colin Gwiazdowski holds the state record in the 50 free and school record in the 50, 100, and 200 free, 100 back, and 100 fly.
 
Key Returners
Sophomore diver Delaney Schnell was named the Pac-12 Women's Freshman Diver of the Year and earned All-America honors in the 1-meter last season. She earned the highest score on the team in all three events and was a CSCAA Scholar All-American. 

Senior Mackenzie Rumrill holds all-time top-ten times in Arizona school history in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 IM, all set last season. She had the fastest time on the team in those three events as well. 

Senior Chatham Dobbs held the fastest time on the team and holds all-time top-ten times in Arizona school history in the 50 free, 100 fly, and 100 back. He earned three All-American honorable mentions last season at NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Brooks Fail holds two top-ten times in Arizona school history (500 and 1,650 free). He held the fastest team time in the 500, 1,000, and 1,650 free last season and won seven events.
