Emma Wilson Joins Arizona Women’s Tennis

TUCSON, Ariz. – Head coach Ryan Stotland has added Emma Wilson to the roster for the 2018-19 season. Wilson will be transferring from Fresno State University.

"Emma was my first captain I ever had and was an Arthur Ashe award winner for sportsmanship and leadership," Stotland said. "She loves tennis and is a perfect example of the type of person and player I want in my program.  Emma literally gives 100% in everything she does every day and I am in awe of how she does this. She is the definition of a great teammate; she is selfless, will do whatever is best for the team and is a perfect example of an amazing team player. I am very excited to see how great Emma can do in her senior year and I am sure her last year will be her best year yet."

Wilson combined to win 43 matches this past season after recording a career-best 25-15 record in singles play. In doubles, the native of Newcastle, England went 18-16, and was 14-12 alongside Georgia Lawson. The two were ranked throughout the 2018 season by the ITA, and were as high as No. 27 on March 6 after a 22-spot jump. She was selected to both the All-Mountain West singles and doubles teams for the second straight season. Wilson qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships and helped Fresno State earn an NCAA Tournament bid as a team.

"I am excited to start my final year at Arizona," Wilson said. "Arizona is an amazing place to be and I can't wait to start."

Off the court, she was the recipient of the ITA Northwest Region's Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership Award, which takes into account a player's tennis accomplishments, scholastic achievements and extracurricular endeavors, and recognizes players who excelled on and off the court as Ashe did during his life.
