TUCSON, Ariz. -- Nine Wildcats -- five men and four women -- were named first-team Pac-12 all-academic, as announced by the conference this week. Overall, 25 Arizona swimmers and divers were recognized for their combined academic and athletic performances this season.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and participate in at least half of their team's scheduled regular season events.

"I am ecstatic to have over half of my team on the Pac-12 AA team" notes Head Coach Augie Busch.  "It speaks to their dedication to their own class work and desire to have the whole team lead the Athletics Department in GPA. I believe it also shows the current state of our team culture with academics at the forefront of our priorities. In so many ways, this is truly a special group of young men and women."

Men's Swimming and Diving All-Academic
Senior Chatham Dobbs (3.53 GPA, Philosophy), sophomore Brooks Fail (3.73 GPA, LLL), sophomore Christian Imbus (3.62 GPA, Pre-Physiology), senior Matt Lujan (3.65 GPA, Physiology) and senior Matthew Salerno (3.82 GPA, Veterinary Science) were named first-team Pac-12 all-academic on the men's side. Seniors Lujan and Salerno were on the all-academic teams in all three seasons eligible while Dobbs, Fail and Imbus are all receiving their first academic honors. Arizona's five first-teamers were second most in the Pac-12 behind only Stanford.

Representing Arizona on the second team were sophomore Jack Anderson (3.42 GPA, Sustainable Built Environments), junior Brendan Meyer (3.33 GPA, Management Information Systems), senior Mathias Oh (3.30 GPA, Accounting), junior Casey Ponton (3.38 GPA, Marketing), junior Noah Reid (3.42 GPA, Management Information Systems), sophomore Isaac Stump (3.39 GPA, Pre-Business). Oh received his third  straight Pac-12 all-academic recognition while Meyer and Ponton are recognized for the second consecutive year.

Women's Swimming and Diving All-Academic
Sophomore Kati Hage (4.00 GPA, Physiology), sophomore Taylor Nations (3.92 GPA, Film and Television), sophomore Jamie Stone (3.86 GPA, Accounting) and senior Ashley Sutherland (3.92 GPA, Marketing) were named first-team Pac-12 all-academic on the women's side. Sutherland's recognition was her third consecutive while the other three Wildcats are making their first career appearance on the team. Only Stanford and California had more first-team selections than Arizona.

UA placed six swimmers and divers on the second team: senior Daniela Georges (3.58 GPA, Neuroscience and Cognitive Science), junior Kirsten Jacobson (3.54 GPA, Accounting), senior Katrina Konopka (3.55 GPA, Chemistry), senior Mackenzie Rumrill (3.71 GPA, Accounting), sophomore Delaney Schnell (3.76 GPA, Pre-Psychology) and junior Sarah Shimomura (3.72 GPA, Retailing and Consumer Science). Georges and Rumrill are third-time honorees, Jacobson is a second-time honoree and the other three are receiving their first ever Pac-12 all-academic selection.

Sophomore Kayla Filipek, sophomore Mallory Korenwinder and senior Mik Ranslem all were named honorable mention.
