Ojai, Calif. - No. 1 seed Arizona fell 4-2 to No. 8 Washington in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Championship tournament.
The Wildcats stumbled in doubles play against the Huskies. No. 48 doubles pair Jonas Ziverts and Herman Hoeyeraal fell 2-6 to the No. 33 doubles pair Jack Davis and Ewen Lumsden. Carlos Hassey and Gustaf Strom also lost 2-6 against Clement Chidekh and Nedim Suko.
Freshman Colton Smith tied the match 1-1 after he swept Lumsden 6-0, 6-0. No. 51 Strom fell 1-6, 3-6 to No. 6 Chidekh at the first position, and No. 45 Ziverts lost 6-7(2), 4-6 to Davis. No. 100 Hoeyeraal defeated Han-Chih Lin in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(4).
Nick Lagaev was the only Wildcat to break into three sets. His match against Suko was left unfinished in the third set (4-6, 6-3, 2-2). Hassey battled Cesar Bouchelaghem in a second set tiebreaker before ultimately falling 3-6, 6-7(4).
The Cats ended their regular season with a program-high 20-6 overall and 7-1 record in Pac-12 play. They made history countless times this season after defeating Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Stanford and Cal, and winning their first-ever regular-season Pac-12 Championship.
Arizona is finished in the Pac-12 Championship tournament and their NCAA fate will be determined during the team selection on Monday, May 2.
