CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -Â No. 16 Arizona defeated No. 39 Princeton 4-2 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Arizona dropped the doubles point, but came back to victorious in singles play.
Filip Malbasic and Colton Smith finished first, 2-6 against Thomas Bosancic and Filippos Astreinidis. No. 50 doubles pair Jonas Ziverts and Herman Hoeyeraal defeated the No. 32 doubles pair Justin Barki and Ryan Seggerman 6-4.Â
It was a back and forth battle between Carlos Hassey and Gustaf Strom against Karl Poling and Damian Rodriguez that ended in a 7-5 victory for the Tigers.Â

The Wildcats won four singles matches to advance to round two of the tournament.
Nick Lagaev took the first singles point in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 against Bill Duo to tie the overall score. No. 52 Ziverts put the Cats ahead with his straight set victory and a tiebreaker sweep against No. 55 Seggerman 6-3, 7-6(7-0).Â
No. 116 Hoeyeraal went to three sets against Rodriguez and defeated him 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. And clinching the win for the Wildcats was Hassey who broke into a third set against Will Peters before winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.Â
Arizona will play the winner of the match between No. 15 North Carolina and Navy tomorrow on Saturday, May 7 at 1 p.m. (MST) in the second round of the NCAA tournament.Â
