TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona secured a pair of wins over New Mexico State on Sunday, defeating the Aggies 6-1 in their 10:00 a.m. matchup and posting a 7-0 win in their 1:00 p.m. contest.
The Wildcats made quick work of the doubles point in the first match of the day when No. 17
Colton Smith and
Jay Friend defeated Gustavo Campus and Tobias Wallin, 6-1.
Sasha Rozin and
Gustaf Strom clinched the team point with a 6-2 victory over Luca Fe D'Ostiani and Itay Feigin.
No. 14 Smith got the first singles win of the day, handily defeating Wallin 6-1, 6-1. Not longer after, No. 31
Jay Friend posted a straight-set 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Feigin.
Nick Lagaev was the third Wildcat to victory, taking down Roko Stipetic 6-1, 6-2.
Casper Christensen defeated D'Ostiani on court five, 6-3, 6-2 before
Eric Padgham rounded out the Wildcat victories with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Patrick Lohmann. New Mexico State got a point on the board with a 7-6(5), 6-2 win by Gustavo Campos over Inaki Cabrera-Bello.
Arizona got the sweep in the second match of the day, first getting a pair of doubles wins on courts one and two to win the team point.
Herman Hoeyeraal and Padgham defeated Campos and Wallin, 6-1, on court one before No. 17 Smith and Friend posted a 6-2 win over D'Ostiani and Stipetic.
Hoeyeraal got a quick win on court three in singles, defeating Tipetic 6-3, 6-3, while Padgham took down D'Ostiani 6-3, 6-1 on court six. Cabrera-Bello clinched the team win with a 6-4, 6-2 takedown of Lohmann.
Play continued on the remaining courts with Lagaev's 6-1,6-3 win over Feigin and Rozin's 7-6(6), 6-0 win over Campos. Strom rounded out the day's wins with a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0(7) win over Wallin on court one.
Arizona is back in action March 1 at the ASU Invite in Tempe, Ariz.
