SEATTLE, Wash. - No. 10 Arizona swept the Washington Huskies Friday evening with a 4-0 win on the road to advance to 6-1 in conference play.
The Wildcats (20-3, 6-1 Pac-12) took the doubles point in back-to-back victories over Washington (8-14, 2-6 Pac-12) on courts one and two. No. 29
Colton Smith and
Jay Friend bested Dzianis Zharyn and Brett Pearson for a 6-3 win, followed by
Herman Hoeyeraal and
Eric Padgham with a 6-4 triumph over Cesar Bouchelaghem and Han-Chih Lin.
After winning five of six first singles sets, Arizona clinched the match with three straight-set victories on courts one, six and five.
No. 20 Smith struck first on court one, downing Bouchelaghem 6-4, 7-5, followed by senior
Nick Lagaev on six with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jim Hendrikx.
Casper Christensen sealed the match on court five in an 11 point tiebreaker for a final score of 6-3, 7-6(9) over Washington's Ivan Sodan.
Arizona is headed to Eugene for their final regular season match up against No. 57 Oregon on Sunday, April 21 at 12:00 p.m. MST.
