Men's Tennis Sweeps Home Opener

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona Men's Tennis began their spring season Tuesday with a 7-0, 7-0 doubleheader sweep over the New Mexico State Aggies.  

The Wildcats kicked off their morning match with a swift round of doubles play. First to finish was court one, where juniors Jay Friend and Eric Padgham defeated Holland Snell and Matias Rojas 6-0. Court two clinched the doubles point for the Cats with a 6-2 win from freshman duo Zoran Ludoski and Filip Gustafsson over Tobias Wallin and Gustavo Campos.  

The Cats dominated singles play, with five of six winning in two sets. Freshmen Ludoski and Gustafsson also made their dual-match singles debut, securing straight set wins over their opponents.  

Arizona had three more freshmen debut in the afternoon match: No. 89 Oskar Jansson, Matthias Uwe-Kask and Glib Sekachov.  

Representing Arizona for the first time this year, Sekachov paired up with senior Colton Smith in doubles play, winning 6-4 over Wallin and Campos. Seniors Iñaki Cabrera-Bello and Casper Christensen secured the doubles point for Arizona with a 6-3 win over Snell and Rojas.  

Five of six singles matches were won in straight sets in the second match.  

The Cats will head east to Tallahassee this weekend to compete against Georgia State and Florida State on Friday and Saturday.
