TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Arizona Men's Tennis (4-0) took down No. 9 Florida State (5-1) 6-1 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Arizona, sitting at No. 6 in the national polls, fell 0-1 early on in Saturday's match after losing the doubles point to the Seminoles.
During singles play, the Cats battled back. First to win was
Alexander Rozin on court six, with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Justin Lyons. Next up was No. 6
Jay Friend winning 6-4, 6-2 against Erik Shiessl. Now up 2-1, next to finish was No. 5
Colton Smith on court one with a 6-3, 7-5 straight set win over No. 22 Jamie Connel. Clinching the win for Arizona was
Filip Gustafsson win a 7-6, 6-2 win over Joshua Dous-Karpenschif. With the win secured, the Cats played out the remainder of their matches to tally a 6-1 win over the Seminoles.
Saturday's win marks the first ranked win of the season for the Cats, wrapping up a statement first week for Arizona. The Cats are set to host ITA Kickoff Weekend Jan. 25-26, where Southern California, Central Florida and Oklahoma State will come to compete in Tucson for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Tournament.
