TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona swimming concluded another successful day at the Texas Invitational. In addition to many individual NCAA cuts, the women's team also earned multiple victories.
On the women's side, Annie Ochitwa earned a victory in the 100 fly with a time of 51.35, within the 'A' cut standard. Mackenzie Rumrill finished second in the event with 52.55, earning a 'B' cut. In the consolation final of the 400 IM, Mik Ranslem took first with 4:16.55 for a 'B' cut.
In the 200 free, Taylor Schick finished second, touching in 1:45.72 and Cameron McHugh placed fifth with 1:46.89. Daniela Georges took seventh (1:47.22) followed by Bonnie Brandon (1:47.50), all four earning an NCAA 'B' cut. Emma McCarthy earned a third-place finish in the consolation final with 1:47.95, making the 'B' cut standard.
Sara Borendame came in fourth place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.52 while Emma Schoettmer took eighth with 1:01.50. Alexandra Martelle finished second in the consolation final (1:01.85), all three getting 'B' cuts.
Katrina Konopka then earned a third-place finish in the 100 back (52.67) while Taylor Garcia finished eighth (54.05), both for 'B' cuts.
In the final event, the team of Ochitwa, Borendame, Rumrill and Schick won the 200 medley relay with an 'A' cut time of 1:37.04, the third fastest time in the nation. Garcia, Schoettmer, Paige Kremer and Konopka took fifth with 1:39.37.
For the men, Nick Thorne was runner-up in the 400 IM with a time of 3:44.48 while Grant Sanders took eighth, touching in 3:51.96. Both swimmers earned NCAA 'B' cuts.
In the 100 fly, Renny Richmond finished fourth with 47.08 followed by Rasmus Skjaerpe (47.41), Mathias Oh (47.49) and Chad Idensohn (47.81). All four had times within the 'B' cut standard.
Riccardo Maestri took eighth in the 200 free with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:36.64. In the consolation final, Thane Maudslien placed second with 1:35.63 and Parks Jones finished fourth with 1:35.91, also getting 'B' cuts.
In the 100 breast, Gage Crosby earned a second-place finish with 53.25. Blair Bish finished fifth (53.51) while Matt Salerno took seventh (54.22). In the consolation final, Andrew Sovero placed fourth, touching in 54.84. All four swimmers received 'B' cuts.
Chatham Dobbs finished fifth in the 100 back with 47.01 while Matt Lujan took second in the consolation final (48.07), both within the NCAA 'B' standard time.
The team of Dobbs, Sovero, Idensohn and Richmond was runner-up in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:26.41. Maudslien, Bish, Mathias Oh and J.P. Beach took fifth in the event with 1:28.08.
The Texas Invitational concludes Saturday, with prelims starting at 8 a.m. MST and finals at 5 p.m. in Austin.
