TUCSON, Ariz., -- The Wildcats picked up another win this Saturday afternoon, as they defeated NAU 5-2, improving to 6-3 on the season at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
"Regarding doubles, I give credit to NAU, they flat out beat us in every aspect of doubles to get the point," said Head Coach Tad Berkowitz. "I give our guys credit to regroup and change the momentum around the right away going into singles."
The Cats started the morning off in doubles play, although they fought hard, they couldn't take the doubles point. Trent Botha and Harry Busby were defeated by Jackson Lee and Felix Schumann, 6-3 on court three, while Oliver Plaskett and Trevor James were defeated by Eden Peleg and Lucas Taylor, 6-4 on court two. Naoki Takeda and Shoki Kasahara had a 5-4 lead over Ruben Montano and Tim Handel until their match was terminated.
Jason Jaruvang changed the momentum of the match when he defeated Ruben Montano, 6-1, 6-1 on court three, putting the Wildcat's first single point on the board. Takeda took the second win on court one, defeating Tim Handel, 6-1, 6-2.
Harry Busby put up a fight but lost to Lucas Taylor, 6-4, 6-3 on court two. Trent Botha pushed Felix Schumann to three sets on court four and came out with a win, 7-6(12-10), 4-6, 6-2.
Oliver Plaskett clinched the match on court six, defeating Thomas Fisher, 6-1, 6-2, while Will Kneale finished out his match on court five, defeating Eden Peleg, 6-3, 6-4.
The Wildcats will be back at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center to take on UCSB, Monday, February 15 at 11 a.m. MST.
