The Wildcats had a tough first day of matches in San Diego today, as they lost 6-1 against University of San Diego.
“Great effort today despite the loss,” said head coach Tad Berkowitz. “It's nice to have Naoki back in the lineup and he picked up a great win over a very strong player.”
The afternoon started off in doubles play, where San Diego took the point. Naoki Takeda and Will Adkisson were beat by Jordan Angus and Josh Page 6-3 on court two.
Will Kneale and Oliver Plaskett were beat by Uros Petronijevic and Filip Vittek 6-4 on court one.
Down 1-0, the Wildcats continued to fight during singles play. Harry Busby was defeated by Romain Kalaydijian 6-3, 6-1 on court four, while Oliver Plaskett was defeated by Joan Kononov 6-3, 6-2 on court five.
Filip Vittek defeated Will Kneale on court three, clinching the match for San Diego, giving them a 4-0 lead.
Naoki Takeda changed the tone of the match, as he won his first set against Uros Petronijevic 7-5, and then won the second set because Petronijevic quit in the second set on court one. This put the cats at 4-1.
Trent Botha fought hard against Alex Araouzos, pushing him to three sets, but fell short on court six 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, while Jason Jaruvang also pushed Jordan Angus to three sets, but lost 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 on court two.
