Ojai, Calif., -- The Wildcats concluded their season today as they were beaten in the first round of the Pac-12 Championships by Oregon 4-0 at Libbey Park in Ojai, California.
“These guys gave it everything they had today and I am so proud of their effort,” said head coach Tad Berkowitz. “Most importantly, they are a team with character and compete with a lot of pride. They put us in a position today but we came up a little short.”
There was no lack of effort coming from Arizona, as they put up a hard fight against Oregon the whole match.
Shoki Kasahara and Matt Dunn were beat by Thomas Laurent and Cormac Clissold 6-3 on court three.
Will Adkisson and Naoki Takeda fought until the very end but fell to Daan Maasland and Cormac Clissold 7-5 on court two, giving Oregon a 1-0 lead.
Will Kneale and Oliver Plaskett also put up another hard fought match, as they were tied 6-6 on court one until their match was abandoned.
Jason Jaruvang was beat by Thomas Laurent on court three 6-0, 6-1, while Trent Botha was beat on court four by Jayson Amos 6-1, 6-4, giving Oregon a 3-0 lead.
Will Kneale was beat by Simon Stevens 7-6(4), 6-1 on court two, which clinched the match for Oregon.
Naoki Takeda beat Daan Maasland in his first set on court one, but their match was abandoned in the second set.
Both Shoki Kasahara and Harry Busby were up in their sets until their matches were abandoned.
Arizona ended their season with an 8-18 record overall and a 0-8 record for the conference.
