LOS ANGELES -- Danielle O'Toole (one-hitter) and
Taylor McQuillin (two-hitter) threw shutouts and Arizona swept Sunday's action at the CSUN/LMU Tournament, 10-0 over Loyola Marymount and 5-0 over Bryant.
The Wildcats finished the CSUN/LMU Tournament 6-0 to improve to 24-1 on the season. The 24-1 start is Arizona's best 25-game start since 2006.
UA outscored its six opponents 58-2 in the six games in the event. In the final four games, UA scored 41 runs and allowed five total hits. In those four games, four complete games by Arizona's four different pitchers, Arizona allowed just 12 total base runners (five hits, five walks, two HBP), including a perfect game by
Michelle Floyd vs. Hartford.
Arizona will remain in Southern California for two days. No. 5 Arizona will face No. 9 Oklahoma and Long Beach State in Long Beach on Tuesday to wrap up nonconference play.
Game 1: #5 Arizona 10, Loyola Marymount 0 (5 inn.)
Danielle O'Toole threw a one-hit shutout and
Dejah Mulipola homered and drove in five, leading Arizona to a 10-0 victory over LMU in Sunday's opener.
The Wildcats had six hits in the game, all by freshmen. Mulipola and
Alyssa Palomino led the way with two apiece.
UA took advantage of nine walks and four hit batsmen by a duo of LMU pitchers.
In addition to UA's 10 runs on six hits, Arizona also left 10 runners on base in five innings, including eight in scoring position.
Still, the 10 runs were more than enough for O'Toole, who gave up her first and only hit with two out in the fourth inning, and improved to 12-1 on the season. The senior struck out five and walked one in the outing.
Mulipola went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three-run triple. Palomino went 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI double.
Mandie Perez,
Malia Martinez and
Nancy Bowling also batted in runs for the Wildcats.
Game 2: #5 Arizona 5, Bryant 0
Mandie Perez homered twice, her first two home runs of the season, and
Taylor McQuillin threw a complete-game two-hitter as the Wildcats shut out Bryant, 5-0.
Perez reached base all five times, posting a single and two walks to go along with her two home runs.
Dejah Mulipola went 2-for-5 wth a home run, a double and three RBI, giving her two homers and eight RBI in the doubleheader. She was a single shy of a doubleheader cycle.
McQuillin struck out 12 of the 28 batters she faced. She allowed two hits and walked four. The sophomore improved to 6-0 with the victory.
Jessie Harper and
Mo Mercado recorded multi-hit games as well, each going 2-for-4.
Perez led off the game with her first homer of the year.
The Cats were held off the scoreboard until two walks and an
Ashleigh Hughes single loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Mulipola doubled to left center to put the Wildcats on top 3-0.
Perez and Mulipola hit back-to-back homers in the sixth to give Arizona a 5-0 lead.
