A HOMECOMING TO REMEMBER

Last weekend was a tremendous homecoming experience as thousands of Wildcats returned to campus to reunite and celebrate. It was a pleasure meeting many alums and learning how much the University of Arizona means to them. There was a dynamic energy in Tucson all weekend, and you could feel the excitement just being on campus. The entire weekend was truly a great display of tradition and our rich history.

Saturday's football game was certainly a memorable night at Arizona Stadium. We honored many of our great Arizona teams of the past, including the 1968 Sun Bowl team, the 1978 Women's Volleyball and Women's Field Hockey teams, the 1998 Holiday Bowl team and the 2008 Las Vegas Bowl team.

Coach Sumlin and our team capped Saturday off with a huge 44-15 win over No. 19 Oregon. There was no better way to wrap up Homecoming weekend at Arizona Stadium than adding another memorable victory to the Arizona Football record books. Thank you to all students, alums, fans and supporters who made Homecoming special!

MILITARY APPRECIATION GAME

military-appreciation

Friday's Arizona Football game versus Colorado will be a fantastic night as we honor the men and women in our armed forces. Fans have been donating tickets for troops for Friday's game and over 1,200 tickets will be donated to military bases in our Southern Arizona community. Arizona Athletics and UA Trademarks and Licensing have also partnered with Operation Hat Trick for
special gear for Friday's Military Appreciation game. Proceeds from OHT clothing sales go to supporting the recovery of wounded service members and veterans. Get your gear from all UA Bookstores locations or online at www.BearDownShop.com. It will be a special night at Arizona Stadium as we pay tribute to those who serve our country.

The UA Bookstores are also offering their "Shirt of the Week" for all Arizona Football home games. Shirts can be purchased for only $10 from all UA Bookstores locations, including the A-Store at McKale Center. You can also purchase them online by clicking here. Fans in attendance at Arizona Stadium can buy their shirts at souvenir stands on Friday.

UA FOOD PANTRY SERVING OUR CAMPUS

pantry-1

I had the opportunity to visit our wonderful Student Union last week. An important part of being a member of a campus community is visiting places like the Union and learning about what it takes to serve and feed our students each day on campus. During the tour, I learned about the critical role the UA Food Pantry plays in helping over 500 students and staff per week with supplemental groceries. All of the groceries provided to these individuals are donated by other students, faculty, and staff. It is truly a great community of people that ensure the success of our students and student-athletes.

BORDER YOUTH TENNIS EXCHANGE

The Arizona Men's and Women's Tennis coaching staffs, along with campus colleagues from UA Global and UA South among others, traveled to Nogales, Sonora as part of the Border Youth Tennis Exchange. It was an important collaboration for Arizona Athletics to be involved with this program. BYTE empowers youth through tennis, educational programming and cross-cultural exchange to build leadership, strong communities and a positive appreciation of our region.  This is just another example of the athletics and academics partnership here at UA!

CANDREA HONORED

Arizona Softball Head Coach Mike Candrea is adding to his very long list of accolades. He will be inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 2018 class tomorrow night. His tremendous career includes eight national championships, 22 Women's College World Series appearances, 11 conference championships, Olympic gold and silver medals and now a fifth Hall of Fame induction.

All of us want to congratulate Coach Candrea on another well-deserved honor as he continues to set the standard of excellence and represent the University of Arizona proudly.

MCKALE SHOWS ITS MAGIC

Both our basketball programs won exciting exhibition openers in McKale Center this week. Seeing so many fans, at each game, cheering on Coach Miller, Coach Barnes and the student-athletes is a special sight. It is a testament to just how supportive our Southern Arizona community is, and it is one of my favorite parts of serving this great University. I can't wait to see you all season at our men's and women's basketball games!
