BASKETBALL PROGRAMS HOT START

These are exciting times for both our basketball programs who have a combined record of 17-0. Arizona is one of only three Division-I schools to have undefeated men's and women's basketball programs, joining Louisville and Colorado. Coach Barnes and Coach Miller, alongside their staffs, have done fantastic work leading our student-athletes to early season success. Both programs are also ranked in the top 20 of the AP poll for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

Arizona Women's Basketball is a perfect 8-0, which is the program's best start since the 1999-2000 season. McKale Center has continued to be an electric environment for the program with an average crowd of 4,832 this season, which is an increase over last year's average crowd of 3,675. The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday at UTEP at 1 p.m. (MST) on the ESPN+ streaming app.

Coach Miller and the Wildcats won the 2019 Wooden Legacy Tournament over the weekend as Nico Mannion, Dylan Smith and Chase Jeter all earned spots on the All-Tournament team. Nico was the MVP averaging 16.3 points and 7.3 assists per game and was also named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. The Wildcats are off to their fourth 9-0 start under Coach Miller and up to No. 12 in this week's AP poll. Arizona faces No. 18 Baylor in Waco, Texas on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. (MST) on ESPNU.

A tremendous feeling of pride and excitement is in McKale Center for both our basketball programs. We have outstanding coaches guiding exceptional student-athletes who are achieving great things. Congratulations to both our basketball teams on the fantastic starts and thank you for proudly representing the University of Arizona.

HERE COME THE GYMCATS

gymcats

Gymnastics season is just around the corner, so get out your calendars out and mark the Arizona Gymnastics schedule down. Coach Court and the Wildcats will begin their season with the annual Gymcat Showcase on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. (MST) inside McKale Center. The season-opening showcase is just one of seven home meets this season, and you can click here to get your season tickets.

The program just announced a stellar recruiting class of six Wildcats joining the team next year, which will bolster Arizona's outstanding roster. The future of Arizona Gymnastics is bright, and we are all excited for another season. Bear Down and Go Cats!

IMPACTING SOUTHERN ARIZONA

miller

Our Southern Arizona community makes Arizona Athletics special, and Wildcats work tirelessly to give back to the community that supports all our programs. Coach Miller, and his wife Amy, announced a generous gift to the Boys & Girls Club of Tucson to install air conditioning and build a new gym floor at the Roy Drachman Clubhouse.

The Miller Family's powerful generosity will impact the lives of hundreds of young people at the Boys & Girls Club for years to come. Thank you Sean and Amy for making our community a better place and for being great ambassadors of the University of Arizona.

WILDCATS COMPETING IN ASIA

Tennis

Bear Down to sophomore Khim Iglupas and assistant coach Denise Dy of Arizona Women's Tennis who have been competing in the Southeast Asian Games on behalf of the Philippine National Team in Manilla. Khim and Denise have been playing in doubles action at this premier international tennis event.
Freshman golfer Aidric Chan will also represent the Philippines at the Southeast Asian Games. Aidric is off to a strong start for Arizona Men's Golf, which includes an impressive round of 65 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.

Representing your country is one of the highest honors for an athlete, and we are proud of these three Wildcats who are also representing the Block A on the international stage.

NAME, IMAGE AND LIKENESS PANEL

NIL

I was honored to serve as a moderator, along side President Robbins, for the University of Arizona's panel on Name, Image and Likeness in college athletics. This was a tremendous discussion regarding a high-profile issue in college athletics, and it featured a variety of opinions from athletic directors, lawyers, economists and more. This was a crucial conversation to have about a very important topic that will shape the future of college athletics, and it was an enlightening session due to the variety of strong opinions given by the panelists. I want to thank President Robbins, Faculty Athletics Representative Ricardo Valerdi and our campus partners for organizing and hosting this event on such a vital matter.

BE CLEAR ON GAMEDAY SAFETY

clear-bag

As winter approaches and more Wildcat teams begin to compete, we want to remind all fans about Arizona Athletics' clear bag policy for all home events. The policy limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into our venues. The following is a list of bags that will be accepted for entry:
  • Bags that are clear plastic or vinyl and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, after being searched
  • Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection, including but not limited to oxygen tanks, diabetes kits, allergy pens, etc.
Please make your plans with this policy in mind when attending an Arizona Athletics event. Bear Down and Go Cats!

SEAN MILLER RADIO SHOW

Another season of the Sean Miller Radio Show is set to begin on Monday, Dec. 9. The weekly radio show, featuring Coach Miller and Brian Jeffries, is live from Union Public House on Mondays at 7 p.m. (MST). Come experience the show live or tune in on Wildcats Radio 1290 AM in Tucson, KFYI 550 AM in Phoenix or through the TuneIn app.

COMPLIANCE CORNER

A few reminders for our fans about employing student-athletes: Student-athletes may only be paid for work actually performed. They may only be paid going rate for those services, and their compensation may not include any payment for the value their athletics reputation may have for the employer. Any benefits provided to a student-athlete as part of their employment must be consistent with those provided to other employees. It is also a requirement that both employers and student-athletes fill out the Student-Athlete Employment Form found on the Compliance website at arizonawildcats.com/compliance. Please contact the Compliance Office at (520) 621-4796 or ica-compliance@email.arizona.edu with any questions.

WILDCAT NUGGETS
  • Congratulations to Devyn Cross and Julia Patterson for receiving all-conference honors from the Pac-12. Devyn posted a banner season of career highs in kills per set and hitting percentage on her way to becoming Arizona's first all-conference middle blocker since Cursty Jackson in 2011. Julia wrapped up her senior season as the only setter in the conference to average 9.00 assists, 2.0 digs and 1.0 kills per set this season and tallied the only trip-double recorded in the Pac-12 this season.
  • The junior duo of Jill Aguilera and Jada Talley of Arizona Soccer earned All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches Association. Jill and Jada combined to record nearly 50 percent of Arizona's goals and 40 percent of assists. Bear Down Jill and Jada on a fantastic season, and we can't wait to see you in action next year.
  • Did you know the youngest of Wildcat fans can attend a variety of home events for just $15? The Arizona KidCats Club, presented by Hughes Federal Credit Union, is the perfect program for young Wildcats in Kindergarten all the way to eighth grade. Click here for more information.
