Wildcat Wednesday

Wildcat Wednesday - A Great Wildcat Weekend

The Arizona Football Spring Game was the centerpiece of a terrific alumni reunion weekend for the program. With nearly 250 former Wildcats returning to campus to reunite and share their appreciation for the program, our athletics department continues to hold a special place in the hearts of Wildcats after they leave campus. Alumni outreach and welcoming back letterwinners is a key part of Arizona Athletics' Wildcat Way mission, and it is always an honor for me to welcome former Wildcats back to Southern Arizona.

The spring game proved to be a lot of fun and excitement at Arizona Stadium. Coach Fisch and the program continue to grow the spring game into a marquee event, and we set a program record for the most-attended spring game with over 23,000 fans on Saturday. It helped create an awesome environment for our alumni in attendance as well as our current student-athletes competing in their final practice of the spring.

With spring practice now over, it is time to get ready for the 2023 season. The Wildcat Family continues to showcase how special our athletics department is by supporting our student-athletes. Seeing the stands of Arizona Stadium full of red and blue makes a difference in the experiences of each and every football student-athlete. The season officially begins on Saturday, September 2 with a home opener versus Northern Arizona. If you don't have your tickets yet to Bear Down this fall, please visit ArizonaWildcats.com/FB, visit the McKale Center Ticket Office or dial 520-6210-2287 to lock in your seats. TALIE AND JORDAN CONTINUE CHAMPIONSHIP EXCELLENCE

Arizona Track and Field's tandem of Talie Bonds and Jordan Geist continue banner seasons by collecting more wins and breaking more records. After breaking the indoor 60-meter hurdle record three times this winter, Talie hasn't slowed down during spring season. She broke the Arizona record in the 100-meter hurdles over the weekend at the Mt. Sac relays, marking the second time this spring she's shattered that mark.

After winning an individual national title during the winter, Jordan's career of dominance in the thrower's circle continues in his final spring season of competition. He became the first thrower in the nation to eclipse 21 meters in the shotput in California over the weekend. Jordan has achieved the feat twice this season and now leads the nation in the event as well as the hammer throw.

The Wildcats are off this week but will resume competition in the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Wednesday, April 26. Arizona Track & Field continues to achieve greatness this year, and we know our student-athletes will continue the championship excellence.

BEAR DOWN ARIZONA WOMEN'S TENNIS

Hats off to our women's tennis program for the weekend sweep of Utah and Colorado at home. Coach Stotland and the Wildcats defeated the mountain schools in front of outstanding crowds at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The program had a couple of special honorary first serves before each match as head football coach Jedd Fisch and head men's basketball coach Tommy Lloyd started the wins off. The support of all our coaches and student-athletes by our other programs is a special testament to the outstanding Wildcats in our athletics department and the culture built within all 22 of our programs.

Arizona Women's Tennis has its season finale at home this weekend, welcoming the Sun Devils for a 1 p.m. (MST) match on Saturday, April 22. Admission for all home tennis matches is free, so please join us for Senior Day as we honor Lexi Ryngler, Kayla Wilkins and Salma Ziouti.
