PHOENIX, Ariz. – The women beat GCU 204-80, while the men won 172-125. The Cats won 19 individual events and one relay. Junior
Hannah Cox won three races, while freshman
Monica Gumina began her collegiate career with two victories. Sophomore
Brooks Fail, junior
Noah Reid, senior
Mackenzie Rumrill, junior
Mallory Korenwinder, and sophomore
Delaney Schnell also won two individual events each.
The women opened the season with a win in the 200 medley relay.
Aria Bernal, Korenwinder, Rumrill, and
Katrina Konopka placed first with 1:43.98. The men's A team, consisting of
Chatham Dobbs,
Matthew Salerno,
Jorge Iga, and
Marin Ercegovic placed second with 1:31.83.
Cox won the 1,000 free with 10:11.27.
Ayumi Macias placed second with 10:20.95. Fail won the 1,000 free for the men with 9:23.88, while
Christian Imbus finished runner-up (9:36.71).
Cox also won the 200 free with 1:50.85. Gumina finished right behind her with 1:50.96 for silver.
Kirsten Jacobsen placed third with 1:53.38, completing the Cats sweep.
The men swept the 200 free as well, with Reid winning (1:40.68),
Aldan Johnston finishing second (1:41.51),
Jorge Iga third (1:41.54), and
Daniel Namir fourth (1:41.92).
Bernal (56.03),
Daniela Georges (56.32), and
Taylor Nations (58.13) completed the sweep in the 100 back.
Thomas Anderson placed second for the men with 50.58. Dobbs (50.67) and
Jack Anderson (52.33) finish behind him for third and fourth, respectively.
Korenwinder won the 100 breast with 1:04.52.
Francesca Neubauer finished third with 1:06.62.
Matt Salerno won the 100 breast for the men with 57.60.
Sam Iida placed second with 57.94 and
Ty Wells finished third with 1:00.38, completing the sweep.
The women swept the 200 fly, with Rumrill finishing first (2:03.81),
Mik Ranslem second (2:05.81), and
Victoria Navarro third (2:07.03).
Brendan Meyer won the 200 fly for the men with 1:48.20.
Mathias Oh finished third (1:53.82).
Gumina won the 50 free with 23.76.
Ashley Sutherland placed second with 23.86 and Konopka finished third with 23.94.
Gumina also won the 100 free with 51.90. Sutherland finished runner-up with 52.08 while Konopka placed third with 52.25.
Jamie Stone placed fourth with 52.99, completing the sweep. Reid won the 100 free for the men with 45.99.
Georges won the 200 back with 2:04.37 for the women.
Isaac Stump finished second with 1:50.39 for the men, while
Thomas Anderson placed third (1:53.84).
Korenwinder won the 200 breast with 2:22.18 and Neubauer finished third with 2:25.24.
Sam Iida won for the men (2:04.25) and Matt Salerno placed runner-up (2:07.60).
Cox won the 500 free with 4:56.31. Macias finished second (5:03.91), Jacobsen third (5:11.12), and
Sarah Shimomura fourth (5:13.37), completing yet another Cats sweep.
In the men's 500 free, Fail won with 4:32.44, Kaskawal second with 4:42.55,
Daniel Namir third with 4:48.37, and Stump fourth (4:52.34).
Rumrill won the 100 fly for the women with 55.18. Ranslem finished second with 58.84. Stone placed third with 59.11, and
Kayla Filipek finished fourth with 1:00.50.
Meyer finished runner-up with 49.46, and Dobbs placed right behind him with 49.75. Oh finished fourth with 50.61.
The men swept the 200 IM, with Iida (1:52.24), Stump (1:54.08), Johnston (1:54.45), and Fail (1:54.73).
The men's 400 free relay A team, consisting of Reid, Iga, Ercegovic, and Dobbs finished second with 3:03.84 to close out the meet.
Delaney Schnell won the 1 meter (252.30) and 3 meter (301.05).
Eric Correa won the 3 meter with 311.25 and finished runner-up in the 1 meter (262.70).
