2015: Redshirted during the indoor season … Outdoors, Giess came back from an Achilles injury and set a new personal best mark in the javelin throw at the Arizona-ASU Dual meet with a mark of 205-3 (62.56m) and took first place … Earned a fourth-place finish at the ASU Invitational in the javelin throw with a mark of 197-2 (60.09m) … Finished the year at the NCAA West Prelims in the javelin throw and tossed a mark of 190-3 (57.98m).
2014: Indoors, Giess opened the season with Cherry & Silver Invitational, he cleared 6-6.75 (2.00m) in the high jump competition … While attempting the next bar, Giess suffered an Achilles injury that kept him out the rest of the indoor season and the duration of the outdoor season.
2013: Indoors, Giess opened the season with a clearance of 6-10.25 (2.09m) in the high jump at the Lumberjack Team Challenge … He set his personal-best mark of 6-10.75 (2.10m) at the following meet, the Razorback Invitational … He scored two points for the Wildcats at the MPSF Championships with a clearance of 6-9 (2.06m), taking seventh place … Outdoors, he cleared 6-9 (2.06m) on three different occasions … His personal best came at the Pac-12 Championships, where he took 11th place, the Jim Click Shootout and the Stanford Invitational … Giess also threw the javelin on four occasions with his personal-best toss coming at the Willie Williams Classic, 185-1 (56.41m).
HIGH SCHOOL: Giess is a graduate of Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kan. … Giess earned three letters in basketball and four letters in track and field … He was the track and field team captain during the 2012 season … He was named the 2012 ESPN and Gatorade High School Track Athlete of the Year in Kansas … He was three-time regional champion, the 2012 conference champion and the Kansas 6A State Champion in the high jump … He was tied for the No. 1 mark in the country during the 2012 season, clearing 7-1 … He won the dunk contest at the Kansas vs. Missouri All-Star Game and was a three-time runner-up for the Kansas 6A State Championship ... GIess was also recruited by Texas, Oregon, Indiana and Kansas State.
