TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona women beat Washington State 150-107 in the inaugural meet of the new pool. Senior
Mackenzie Rumrill and junior
Kirsten Jacobsen each won two events in the defeat of the Cougars.
The Cats began the meet with second and third place finishes in the 400 medley relay.
Aria Bernal,
Mallory Korenwinder, Rumrill, and
Katrina Konopka placed second with 3:46.34 while the B team finished third with 3:52.56.
Hannah Cox won her fifth straight 1,000 free to remain undefeated this season with 10:15.95.
Ayumi Macias finished second with 10:23.62.
The Wildcats took the top four seeds in the 200 free. Jacobsen (1:52.98),
Sarah Shimomura (1:53.95),
Daniela Georges (1:54.02), and
Victoria Navarro (1:54.61) finished first, second, third, and fourth, respectively.
Bernal placed second in the 100 back with 57.60. Korenwinder finished second in the 100 breast (1:03.81).
Rumrill (2:02.67) and
Mik Ranslem (2:05.19) finish first and second, respectively, in the 200 fly.
The Cats swept the 50 free with
Ashley Sutherland (23.45),
Jamie Stone (23.85),
Alayna Connor (24.15), and Konopka (24.39).
Sutherland placed second in the 100 free with 51.38. Stone finished third with 52.32.
Georges finished second in the 200 back with 2:03.55. Cox placed third (2:09.24) and Bernal fourth (2:09.37).
Korenwinder placed third in the 200 breast with 2:20.80.
Jacobsen won the 500 free with 5:02.97. Shimomura finished third (5:10.18) and Macias fourth (5:12.30).
In the 100 fly, Rumrill won with 55.24. Navarro took second (56.82) and Ranslem third (56.97) to complete the Wildcat sweep.
Ranslem finished second (4:30.99) in the 400 IM with Cox (4:31.28) right behind her for third.
The Cats closed out the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 200 free relay to secure the win. The A team, consisting of Sutherland, Stone,
Kayla Filipek, and Connor won with 1:33.95. The B team placed second with 1:36.10.
